Many wrestlers with Nebraska ties were in action Saturday afternoon. Across all three division, there was 12 wrestlers in DI, five in DII, and one in DIII. Nebraska is currently tied for fourth with Michigan at 45 points after quarterfinals in the Big Ten. In DII nationals Kearney is currently in fifth with 67 points. Four Loper wrestlers are competing for national championships.

For Kearney, they had four wrestlers compete in semifinals Saturday. Josh Portillo, Wes Dawkins, Matt Malcolm, and Jarrod Hinrichs all advanced to finals.

In DIII Eron Haynes became Nebraska Wesleyans’ first All-American on Friday. Haynes finished in eighth place overall. Haynes is a redshirt freshman.

125 Consolation quarterfinals: Ferdinand Mase(Ithica) win by decision(7-1) over Haynes

7th/8th: Carlos Champagne(Wabash) win by decision(9-6) over Haynes

Three other wrestlers competed in DI and DII with Nebraska ties. They were Brett Velasquez from Bennington/St. Cloud State, Will Schany from Blair/Virginia, and Dante Rodriquez from Kearney/Northern Colorado. By finishing fifth place, Schany qualified for nationals. Velasquez capped off his fabulous career with a fourth place finish. Velasquez finished with 103 wins, a four time All-American, and 2016 National Champion.
