The Huskers hosted NCAA DII in-state opponents Nebraska-Kearney and Chadron State in back to back duals yesterday. The Huskers used a mix of their expected varsity lineup and some younger up and comers.

In the first dual, the Huskers outpaced Chadron State 31-9. Chadron State struck first in an exciting match at 125 with Quade Smith pinning Jeremiah Reno. Chadron State’s other win in the dual was a 6-2 victory for Imperial (Chase County) native Eli Hinojosa over Nebraska’s Anthony Gaona. Chadron native Joe Ritzen dropped a close match to Daniel Monahan.

The second dual of the evening between Nebraska and UNK had a ton of Nebraska natives competing. In the first match at 125 UNK had Jackson Nielsen (Blair) come out on the mat. Unfortunately Nielsen suffered an apparent knee injury and couldn’t continue. Nebraska’s Jordan Kelber (Valentine) received a forfeit against UNK at 133 lbs.

In one of the more eventful matches of the evening, Chad Red won by fall against Nick James (Kearney High), but lost a team point after for doing a few pushups over James after the fall. James had just scored a takedown prior to that sequence to make the score 9-3 before Red got an escape and the fall.

The Lopers picked up wins from former DII National Champion Matt Malcolm and Omaha Skutt alum Billy Higgins in back to back weights at 165 and 174.

Kearney high grads Teontae Wilson and Lee Herrington dropped their matches to U23 World Team member Peyton Robb and Christian Lance.

The Huskers will be sending 17 wrestlers to the Grand View Open this weekend, which can be watched LIVE on IAwrestle Rokfin HERE.

Both the Eagles and the Lopers head to the Dakota Wesleyan Open this weekend and both teams will be in attendance at UNK’s home open on November 20th.
