Some huge matches should be in store this weekend at the US Open in Las Vegas, NV. Nebraska will be well represented in the event.

Former Nebraska 4x State Champ Thomas Gilman will be the top seed at 57kg. The former Iowa Hawkeye 3x All-American has been the representative for the USA the last two World Championships. Gilman was a World Runner-Up at the 2017 Championships.

Husker 4x All-American and 2x World Medalist James Green will be top seed at 70kg. Green could see former NWTC teammate Jason Chamberlain in the finals if the seeds hold. Green won two close matches over Chamberlain to make last year’s World Team. Another NWTC member Dom Bradley will be the second seed at 285. Bradley is a former World Team member.

Several other former Huskers are competing this weekend. Colton McCrystal is fresh off a Pan-Am Championships Gold in Argentina. He’ll look to keep the momentum going in one of the most exciting weights of the weekend at 65kg. His former teammate and All-American Timothy Dudley is competing at 92kg. Pat Downey who spent one season on the Nebraska roster will be at 86kg.

Former UNK National Champion Daniel DeShazer will be competing at 61kg. 7th seeded DeShazer has beaten some of the top guys at both 57 and 61kg. Rounding out the seeded wrestlers with Nebraska ties is Ceron Francisco who was a NAIA National Runner-Up for Concordia.
