The first big wrestling event since the Olympics is set for this weekend at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Senior World Team Trials will be Saturday and Sunday for Men’s Freestyle and Greco and Women’s Freestyle. Lincoln has become a host of many wrestling events of late including; Last Chance Qualifiers, Final X, and The Big Ten Wrestling Tournament coming up in March. This weekend’s Senior WTT will be hosted by Lincoln CVB and MWC Academy. Wrestling will begin Saturday at 10 AM. There will be two sessions, with the second session set to begin at 530 PM. Sunday Finals will be at 2 PM. On Saturday make sure you arrive early as Nebraska will also have a home football game. Lincoln also has a Mask Mandate in place, so masks must be worn in the arena.

Six weights will be contested in men’s freestyle with Olympic medalist getting an automatic spot on the National team. Thomas Gilman (57KG), Kyle Dake (74KG), David Taylor (86KG), and Kyle Snyder (97KG) have all accepted their spots. The only wrestler to decline was Gold Medalist, Gable Steveson (125KG). All ten spots will be up for grabs in Greco.

There will be a lot of local talent competing at the World Team Trials. Former UNK great, Daniel Deshazer will wrestle 61KG in Men’s Freestyle. Former Husker wrestlers, James Green and Tyler Berger will be competing at 70KG in Men’s Freestyle. Jordan Burroughs will making his return to Lincoln to compete at 79KG in Men’s Freestyle. Former Husker, Tim Dudley will compete at 92KG in Men’s Freestyle. Current NC State sophomore, Millard South Graduate and MWC alum, Isaac Trumble will be wrestling 92KG in Men’s Freestyle. Current Husker heavyweight, Christian Lance will be competing in Men’s Freestyle at 125KG. Competing in Greco, will be MWC wrestler, Corbin Nirschl who will compete at 63KG. Gretna graduate and current UNK wrestler, Tyler Cunningham will be wrestling for MWC at 82KG. Kearney high graduate, current UNK heavyweight, Lee Herrington will be wrestling for Golden Eagles at 130KG. Also competing at 130KG in Greco, former Husker football player and Concordia Heavyweight Tanner Farmer.
