Rumble on the Red (Fargo, ND):
Skutt Catholic took an abbreviated lineup to this 72-team tournament where Minnesota, South Dakota, North Dakota and Wyoming were among other states represented. The Skyhawks tied for 20th place and all but 1 wrestler won two matches on the weekend. Lazure (106), Meink (126), Van Dyke (152), Higgins (160) and Hixson (285) all advanced to the quarterfinal round and Korbin Meink finished 4th. Lazure, Mendez, Meink, and Jansen all lost their first matches to the eventual champion in their respective weight classes. Lazure, Van Dyke, Higgins and Hixson finished one win from placing in the top 8.

126 – Korbin Meink placed 4th with a 4-2 record

The Clash (Rochester, MN):
Plattsmouth finished 1-5 in duals on the weekend. In the first dual of the tournament, the Blue Devils lost 59-6 to the no. 21 nationally ranked team from Oak Park River Forest (Illinois). Jayden Wooten avoided a shutout with a pin at 152. In their 44-26 win over Hermiston, OR, the Blue Devils got 3 straight pins from Anthony Long (113), Chance Taylor (120) and Andrew Nielsen (126). Bronson Newburn (160) also earned a pin, and Trevor Nielsen (220) earned a major decision.

Badger Duals Tournament (Bennington):
Bennington finished 2nd, Fairbury finished 3rd, and Crete finished 4th at this 6-team dual tournament. Bennington and Fairbury each had 4 wrestlers finish undefeated, while Crete had 3 wrestlers finish undefeated.

Tom Dineen Invite (Creighton Prep):
Omaha Gross Catholic was the only class B school in this tournament. The Cougars entered 4 wrestlers in this tournament last season, and none of them placed in the top 8. This season, first year head coach Chuck Mulligan entered 9 wrestlers and 2 of them placed in the top 7. Grant Huck finished 7th at 170 recording a fall, major decision and regular decision. Justin Grabowski finished 5th at 182 recording 3 falls on the day.

Although there were two wrestlers from each school ranked in the top 5 of their respective weight classes, they didn’t match up and all 4 wrestlers earned bonus point wins.
