The season is winding down. This is the final weekend of tournaments with state duals next weekend then districts and state. Teams across the state are putting their final touches on the lineups and preparing for a big February. Week eight saw Kearney win the UNK Duals, Millard South win the Plattsmouth Invite, and Omaha Burke win their home invite. Elkhorn South narrowly defeated Millard North 39-38 to win the Lincoln Northeast Duals.

Class A Wrestler of the Week.

Jaylan Ruffin from North Platte had a big weekend going 3-0 and winning a very tough 126 pound bracket at the John Higgins Invite in Lexington. He won the final over Class B #3 Landon Weidner 4-1. Ruffin is a Junior who is currently ranked #3 in Class A.

Class A Team of the Week.

Elkhorn South

The Storm went 5-0 at the Lincoln Northeast Duals on Saturday. They defeated Creighton Prep, South Sioux City, Lincoln East, Fremont and in the finals won a very tight match against Millard North 39-38. The Storm got a fall from 120 pounder, Daniel Walters in the final match to give them the title. Elkhorn South had 37 pins on the day and they wrestled with out 220 and 285 pound wrestlers on Saturday.

Class A Freshman of the Week.

Omaha North Freshman, Tyler Stewart has been hot in January. He finished runner up at the Metro Conference a couple weeks ago and continued his dominance last week. He went 3-1 at the Burke Invite with three falls and lost in the finals to Cade Haberman from Westside.
