Archer Heelan (106), Phillip Moomey (132) and Nick James (145) won their brackets and combined for 5 falls, 2 major decisions and 2 tech falls. Moomey scored bonus points in all 5 matches of the tournament and beat a top-ranked opponent from Kansas to earn the outstanding wrestler award. Rylie Steele (6-2 at 120) finished 4th, Carter Abels (5-2 at 160) finished 5th, Hunter Nagatani (5-2 at 113) and Gage Ferguson (5-2 at 126) finished 6th. 6. Papillion- La Vista (1st at Monarch Duals)
The Monarchs won 4 duals at their home tournament led by Jordan Bobier (113), Ian Rudner (120), Landon Roberts (138), and Creighton Baughman (145) who won 3 or more matches on the day. Josh Richardson (126) and Cody Niemiec (126) each won their only match. Nolan Niemiec (2-1 at 132) and Cole Price (3-1 at 152) only lost one match.

Brody Arrants (126), Oscar Richter (182) and Ethan McPhillips (285) finished 2nd, while Kael Kingery (120), Izaiah Deras (145) and Jacob Sheldon (152) each finished 3rd.

9. Norfolk (3rd at Norfolk Invite)
The Panthers finished 5 points behind team runner-up Grand Island behind individual champions Josh Licking (152) and Conner Cowling (285). Brayden Splater (160) and Austin Miller (170) both finished 2nd, while Aaron Dittmer (126), Kaleb VanDriel (132), and Hunter Mangelsen (195) finished 3rd. Austin Miller recently won a wrestle-off over ranked teammate Blake Forsythe, and Hunter Mangelsen has made his way down to 195.

The Eagles finished 9 points behind top ranked Skutt Catholic (Class B) on the strength of tournament champions Emilio Haynes (113), Deon Davis (145), Justin Davis (152), Jacob Hilding (195), and Jacob Frezell-McClinton (285) who scored bonus points in every match. They combined for 19 falls and 3 major decisions. Ryan Turner (120), Christopher Kueny (132) and Ka’Ron Davis (182) all finished 3rd.

  1. Just curious as to what warrants a match as being a “Noteable Match?” Was in Norfolk for the whole tournament Saturday and saw a few extremely close matches, some that were exciting to watch. They are not your noteable ones mentioned. Far from it. We’re you even there to make such judgements?

  2. Great question! For the sake of these weekend recaps, Notable Match Results would be any match between ranked wrestlers, or if an unranked wrestler beats a ranked wrestler. There are so many tournaments every weekend, that we can’t be at every tournament. It would take way too long to sift through Trackwrestling and list every match that had a close score. Feel free to let us know if we miss any results that fit the above criteria, and we will be glad to add it to the recaps. There are a lot of results to sift through, so we definitely miss some matches each week.
